Nice set of nesting tables model PK71 designed by Poul Kjaerholm for Ejvind Kold Christensen, Denmark 1957-1982. These tables are a very rare first production as only the very few first produced tables were stamped with the ‘old’ EKC Denmark logo. When they changed the logo in the beginning of the 1960s it didn’t fit on these small frames anymore and therefore you will mostly see onstamped examples but these are stamped ‘DENMARK’. The tables have a matt chromium plated steel bar stock and white polished acrylic tops.
PK 71 comprised three nested cubes, side tables that could be arranged as needed and then stacked within one another for compact storage. These tables were the first furnishings in which Poul Kjaerholm translated a square into three dimensions. The abstract form and small scale of the tables gave then a toy-like character, and moving the tables around and storing them required the user to assemble the set, much as the larger furnishings were assembled from repetitive elements.
