This is for a very nice example of the famous PK22 chair designed by Poul Kjaerholm for E Kold Christensen, Denmark 1956. This model is an early edition with very nice dark brown patinated leather. The chair consisted of a spring steel structure, one pair each of legs, crossbars, and side frames, Joined with machine screws and covered with leather. The seat and back are fitted with a laced canvas under layer to provide support. The chair is in amazing condition, no tears or damages to the leather and the leather is still very strong and firm. The matt chrome plated frame has some marks but nothing serious, the overall chair has an amazing patina from age and usage but can be used for several more years easily.
The PK22 was introduced in 1956 and it was an immediate commercial and critical success. Initial sales of it provided Kold Christensen with the funds to develop Kjaerholm’s subsequent designs. The chair won a Grand Prix at the 1957 XI Triennale die Milano, and the following year Kjaerholm won the Lunning Prize, Scandinavia’s most prestigious award for design and applied art, largely on the strength of PK22.
