Rare 'orkidea' vase designed by Timo Sarpaneva for Iittala, Finland 1953. This is for a very rare and early production vase which is unsigned. This vase was originally designed in 1953 and exhibited at the 1954 Triennale di Milano, where it was awarded the Grand Prix for outstanding design. Also awarded "Most Beautiful Object of the Year" by House Beautiful magazine in 1954. Steam blown, hand shaped glass. The vase is in very good condition, some minimal water wear on the inside.
