Very nice abstract modern painting by Jules Bekker 1975. The painting was part of the PTT collection. This early work by Bekker has a lot of Cobra style influences from Karel Appel and Corneille. It’s a very nice and large painting and looks very decorative in any modern home or interior. It is a colorful piece of art with a black lacquered wooden frame. The work is signed at the front and back.
Visual artist Jules Bekker, born in 1939 in The Hague, followed his training at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague and the Vrije Academie in The Hague. He currently lives and works in Harlingen.
The work of Bekker, consisting of paintings and prints, is original and has a sensual and humorous character. In his figurative works are common people and animals, already imagining his later works often dream landscapes containing surrealist motifs. Bekker depicts an evolving world where nothing is established, with impressive landscapes inhabited by fantasy animals. Human figures and animals in his works often have a deeper and more symbolic meaning.
Characteristic for the works of Bekker is the use of playful lines and patterns and special shapes. The figures, which are colored with soft, subtle colors, often have sharp contours and sometimes seem to consist of fragments. The bright and colorful landscapes, which are created by combining painting and graphic techniques have harmonious compositions.
The work of Bekker is in collections of individuals, businesses and museums, including the Hague Municipal Museum, the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam and the Prinsenhof in Delft.
