Very nice and large wooden sculpture designed by Jan van de Waterlaat (1939 – 1995), Holland 1973. Jan van de Waterlaat was a painter and sculptor, this sculpture was made as an elementary life function. So that explains the organic shape. Van de Waterlaat was more of an autodidact as an artist. From his childhood he made pen drawings, paintings and sculptures. He was averse to conventions and did not strive to break into the art world. Nevertheless, he exhibited in the 60s and 70s at home and abroad. In his own region – he lived in Helenaveen since the 1960s – he regularly exhibited in De Wieger and the Helmond Municipal Museum. Between 1960 and 1978, Van de Waterlaat mainly made marble and hard stone sculptures. In the last 15 years he mainly produced sculptures in the flat surface. This is one of those sculptures, made of hard stone base and solid pine wooden sculpture. Very nicely crafted and highly decorative. In  very good condition with original marks and stickers.
