Huub and Adelheid Kortekaas Engelhart chair 1970

Rare limited edition lounge chair Engelhart (Angel heart) designed and made by Huub and Adelheid Kortekaas, Winssen Holland 1970. This chair is one of 150 chairs made in limited edition, there were chairs in white, yellow, red or blue. This is for a very nice neutral color white. Huub Kortekaas inspired most of his designs by nature. As you can see in many of his works he used plant seeds, newly born plants etc as inspiration. In the 1960s he used it in a more abstract way at the end you can easily see the shapes of plants to his works. This chair comes from a friend of the Kortekaas family, she bought this chair directly from Kortekaas in 1970 and it’s signed at the inside by Huub too. The chair is in good original condition, never went outside thank god. There are only few very minor marks to the chair on the seat and the normal chips and cracquele at the lower rim cause this was the most fragile point of the chair. If wanted we can have this professionally restored into perfect condition but we always prefer to preserve the originality of an item like this. This chair comes with a limited edition book 'Manifest' from 1995. This is number 211 / 999 and shows the most of his ork, also written in English.

Huub Kortekaas, sculptor and philosopher, born in 1935, has lived and worked in the area of Maas en Waal (Gelderland, The Netherlands) since 1940. Instead of continuing the nursery of his father Huub became a school teacher.  Out of his “Zero-experience” (Nietzsche, Wittgenstein, Gabriel Marcel) a new awareness of life has arisen in Huub.
In 1960, he met a kindred spirit in the humanist Erasmus and out of gratitude he created a monumental statue of him: his first work (which is now on the grounds of the University of Nijmegen). From 1961 onward archetypes of growth and fertility have arisen. 
From the early 80s, like a quantum-physician, he has been looking for insight in the fundamental principles of creation. As a consequence numbers are getting a mythic and symbolic significance.  Together with his wife and creative partner, they divide the number 100, as metaphor for the economy, into 3 x 33 + 1.
About this he says: “We are not presenting ourselves as artists who creates art, but as alchemists, looking for the symbiosis between economy and spirituality, between culture and nature, between Eastern and Western ways of thinking, between the individual and his society.
Huub Kortekaas experiences man as a creator, a metaphysical challenge between dream and reality, between reality and illusion.
