Ultra rare and quite unique tea cart designed by Gerrit Thomas Rietveld, designed and made probably by Gerard van de Groenekan for Metz & Co ca 1945. This tea cart is one of the very few known to still exist because the wood is very fragile and light weighted this could easily damage. The cart is made of softwood and triplex, dark brown stained. The piece is in amazing original condition with only normal user wear after all these years. This piece comes from Amsterdam and was probably bought at Metz & Co close after World War ll when no metal parts could be used for furniture cause a lot of metal was used for the war. A similar example is in the collection of Central Museum Utrecht, inventory number 27089. This is the only example known to exist with 6 slats instead of 5 which could point at an early piece when there was still a lot of wood available to make this piece. Wheels show great patina from usage.
