Very nice ‘Goto’ vase designed by Gaetano Pesce made for for the Caffe Florian, on the occasion of the G. Pesce show at the Caffe Florian during the Venice Biennale, 1995. The text in Italian "Toast to Venice" is moulded on the vase/cup in a shape of a mask of the head of the Lion of San Marco. Moulded on the bottom: "Domus 1995, Florian Temporanea". Each Goto vase/cup is unique hand cut, made of different soft cast resin color. This is the first edition of these vases, vases have been reproduced later on in semitransparent resin for retail purposes. You mostly see the semitransparent vases because there were made much more of these, up to 5000 examples. From the first production there were maximum 500 vases. This is a beautiful example in nice green with red and yellow.
Text translated into English: "A toast to Venice, so that she becomes a locus of modern lives, modern behaviour, progress, services, joys, optimism, discoveries, trust in the future, courage, openness to the culture of the contemporary world… and not a place of prejudice, protection, conservatism, immobility, soporific location, museum-cult of the past, reactionary example, hopeless venue for future generations, full of torpor, provincialism, mute and nostalgic enterprises… Let's get rid of this masque, which claims Venice a space to live in."
