Rare first production Revolt armchair designed by Friso Kramer for Ahrend de Cirkel, Holland 1953. This chair was made for the TH Delft who commissioned Friso Kramer and Ahrend to decorate the new interior. These famous TH Delft chairs are from the first production in 1958. This example in black and white with a grey lacquered frame with arms is in impeccable condition. The chair has a folded metal base which was very strong ciranol seat, back and arms. This chair is rare because there weren’t so many chairs in black and white and the facility of the TH Delft burned down and a lot of the furniture was gone. The chair has the TH Delft metal tag on the side. The chair is in fantastic original condition, the grey lacquered metal frame has only minimal wear from age and usage. The seat and back have very minimal wear from 50 years of usage and there are no cracks or chips to the ciranol. This is for a very hard to find, collectible chair in pristine condition.
The designs of Friso Kramer are highly sought after because of their progressive designs. Even though this chair was designed in 1953, this is still in production at Ahrend. With few modern changes to the materials but the shape is still identical. Friso Kramer was a functionalist, all of his pieces are well thought about and amazingly executed. Even though most of his designs were produced in large numbers the process before that was really intense and time taking. And the result of that was a great production process with fantastic ergonomic result. Friso Kramer is often compared to Jean Prouve. Musea often show the Revolt chair next to the Standard chair by Jean Prouve, not withour reason.
