Rare set of 4 Revolt folding chairs designed by Friso Kramer for Ahrend de Cirkel, Holland 1953. Though the Revolt chair was already designed in 1953, the production started in 1958. The chair has a folded metal base which was very strong and a blue ciranol seat and back. This model is rare because the folding chair was only used in several buildings in Holland and Belgium. The chairs are stickered with a Belgian sticker underneath the seat, in French and Dutch language. The set is in nice condition, the light grey frame is professionally repainted in the exact same original color with preservation of authenticity. The seats and back have very minimal wear from 50 years of usage and only 1 chair has a small crack the to the seat that doesn’t affect the comfort or stability on the seating. This is for a very hard to find, collectible chair set with many hidden details. This is for sure my favorite design by Friso Kramer.
The designs of Friso Kramer are highly sought after because of their progressive designs. Even though this chair was designed in 1953, this is still in production at Ahrend. With few modern changes to the materials but the shape is still identical. Friso Kramer was a functionalist, all of his pieces are well thought about and amazingly executed. Even though most of his designs were produced in large numbers the process before that was really intense and time taking. And the result of that was a great production process with fantastic ergonomic result. Friso Kramer is often compared to Jean Prouve. Musea often show the Revolt chair next to the Standard chair by Jean Prouve, not withour reason.
