Nice set of 4 rare Revolt armchairs designed by Friso Kramer for Ahrend de Cirkel, Holland 1953. Though the Revolt chair was already designed in 1953, the production started in 1958, and these specific chairs are produced in 1965. The chairs have a folded metal base which is very strong and a ciranol seat and back. The chairs are in very nice original condition, Friso Kramers intentional design was to make the chairs all in 1 colour like these, in full black. For commercial reasons Ahrend wanted to be flexible with the colour combinations. The seats. backs and arms are in black ciranol and are in good condition too with only very minimal surface wear due to age and usage. The frames are black painted too. This is for a very nice set with smooth seats and backs. Hard to find original set in this beautiful condition.
The designs of Friso Kramer are highly sought after because of their progressive designs. Even though this chair was designed in 1953, this is still in production at Ahrend. With few modern changes to the materials but the shape is still identical. Friso Kramer was a functionalist, all of his pieces are well thought about and amazingly executed. Even though most of his designs were produced in large numbers the process before that was really intense and time taking. And the result of that was a great production process with fantastic ergonomic result.
