Very nice packaging bag designed by Bart van der Leck for Metz & Co in 1935. These bags were designed as present/packaging materials for the Metz & Co shop in Amsterdam and Den Haag and were used from 1935 to 1952. This is for a very nice large example in very good original unused condition. Paper bag with Bart van der Leck print on it. The bag is framed and the measurements listed are of the bag without frame.
Bart Anthony van der Leck (Utrecht , 1876 – Blaricum , 1958) was a Dutch designer and artist. Van der Leck is best known as one of the founders of De Stijl together with Piet Mondrian and Theo van Doesburg . Van der Leck, however, left the movement early on – in 1918 – because he did not agree to all principles , including with regard to the use of diagonals and the shape and placement of color patches in the total surface of the painting . In addition, there were problems between Van der Leck and Van Doesburg especially at the organizational level. Van der Leck decided to break off contact with Style ensuing disagreements.
