Unique coffee table designed and made by Gerrit Thomas Rietveld, designed for Gabriel Smit, poet, writer and reporter. At the time of his marriage, Gabriel Smit furnished his interior with furniture designed by Gerrit Rietveld in 1930. Including this unique round coffee table. The interior stayed in his possession until 1981 when his family inherited the interior. This table was made or American deal wood, has a circular top supported by cylindrical legs. It is in very good well-kept original condition and has never been restored in the last 86 years. This table shows how strong and progressive the work of Gerrit Rietveld is, where Charlotte Perriand designed similar and now well-known stools and tables in similar style, but 20 years later.
Provenance: Gabriel Smit, 1930 to 1981, Smit family 1981 to 2007.
