Very nice geometric bronze sculpture designed and made by Lucien den Arend, Zwijndrecht 1975. This sculpture is called Discoid Form Juncture ll and it was made in an edition of 12, this is number 3. The sculpture is made of solid bronze and rests on a black ebonized wooden base. Very nice sculpture in clean condition.
Lucien Armand Marco den Arend (Dordrecht, December 15, 1943) is a Dutch sculptor, painter and draftsman. Den Arend immigrated with his parents to the United States in 1953. He studied at California State University - Long Beach. Back in the Netherlands he continued his studies at the Art Academy in Tilburg (1966-1969) and the Academy of Fine Arts in Rotterdam (1969-1970). In the sixties and seventies of the twentieth century he brought other artist to the attention in his gallery at the Veerplein in Zwijndrecht. They were other Zwijndrechtse artists, as Willy Sluiter and Clement Bezemer. Den Arend now lives and works in Penttilä in Kangasniemi, Finland. He retired in 2006 as his sculpture poam (Penttilä Open Air Museum) furnished. In 1996 was the main sculptor of the Statue Zwijndrecht (Open Air Museum Drecht Banks of OPAM) in the North Park in Zwijndrecht. He has also been active as secretary and chairman of the Dutch Society of Sculptors.
